PM: Crop Insurance Expands in Rajasthan

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Rajasthan has ranked fourth in the country for the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The state received 10 out of 10 points in the use of technology (YES-TECH) and CCE app.

Rajasthan has secured fourth place in the national ranking for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), with a score of 43.5. The Government of India evaluates the implementation of the scheme in states based on 10 performance points.

Rajasthan has performed particularly strongly in the use of technology. The state received 10 points each for conducting crop cutting experiments online through an app and implementing YESTECH.

According to the state government, crop insurance claims worth ₹35,600 crore have been paid from Kharif 2016 to Kharif 2026, against premiums of approximately ₹7,800 crore deposited by farmers.

Assam first, Uttar Pradesh second in crop insurance ranking

In the Indian government’s assessment, Assam ranked first with 55.5 points, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 47.5. Rajasthan received 43.5 points and secured fourth place. The rankings are based on operational parameters of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), assessing aspects such as insurance coverage, claim payments, state share subsidies, and resolution of farmer grievances, along with the use of technology.

What are the benefits of using digital harvesting?

Yields are assessed through crop cutting experiments. Recording these experiments on an app helps make the data more organized and transparent.

The Government of India’s evaluation framework awards a maximum of 10 points for conducting more than 90 percent of crop cutting experiments through the app. Rajasthan received full marks on this criterion.

According to Agriculture Commissioner Naresh Kumar Goyal, approximately 90 percent of crop cutting experiments in the state have been conducted online. The department has now directed that 100 percent of experiments be conducted through the app.

Rajasthan gets full marks in YESTECH too

Technology-based crop yield assessment is being promoted under YESTEC. States that adopt YESTEC in more than 90 percent of their districts receive a maximum of 10 points in the evaluation.

Rajasthan also received 10 points on this criterion. The state government described this as a significant achievement in the increased use of digital technology in the crop insurance process.

Claim payments to farmers are approximately 4.5 times the premium.

According to the Agriculture Commissioner, 254.7 million crop insurance policies have been issued in Rajasthan from Kharif 2016 to Kharif 2026.

During this period, farmers paid approximately ₹7,800 crore in premiums, while they received approximately ₹35,600 crore in crop insurance claims. The total payment represents approximately 4.5 times the farmers’ premiums.
